  2. On the first screen, a License Agreement will appear. Click on Accept there.
  3. Then click on Detect problems and apply the fixes for (Recommended).
  4. The program will then work with Windows Update to find and fix the problems.

Wait until the process is complete.

Method 2: Change the DNS Servers

Some IPS can also become the reason of errors with Windows Update. So you have to manually add a public DNS server on your network connection.

To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key and R key on your keyboard together. That will open the run command box.
  2. In the Open space type ncpa.cpl.

Method 3: Configure Automatic Updates

To solve the error by configuring automatic updates, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key and R key on your keyboard together. That will open the run command box.
  2. In the Open space type regedit.
  3. Press Enter after typing.Run command screen
  4. The Windows registry will open.
  5. In the Windows registry go to the following navigation:

However, if you don’t find the Windows Update key, then you have to create it. To create the Windows Update key, right click on the Windows key available on the left pane. From the available options click on New and then go to Key. Then type in WindowsUpdate there to name the key. That is how you can create the Windows Update key. Now right click on the WindowsUpdate key on the left pane and follow the same process to create the AU key.

  1. After doing that double click on the right side. That will open the UseWUServer. There go to value data and change the value from 1 to 0.

However, if you don’t find the UseWUServer value, then you have to create it. To create the UseWUServer value, right click on the right pane. From the available options click on New. Then go to DWORD (32-bit) Value. Then type in UseWUServer to give it a name. That is how you can create the UseWUServer value.

Method 4: Turn Off your Firewall and Antivirus Software

First of all, check if a security program installed on your PC is what is preventing Windows Update Services (SVCHOST) from accessing the internet. Temporarily disable your firewall, antivirus, and anti-spyware software. After doing that proceed with downloading the updates. Then open your antivirus settings. When it opens, disable real-time protection.

Considering firewall, open Control Panel. Then go to Windows Firewall and then Turn Windows Firewall on or off. There select Turn off Windows Firewall.

Customize settings for each type of network

In most cases, the firewall and antivirus software are the reasons behind the 8024402c error. This is why disabling them can work well and can solve the error. However, you should know that disabling the firewall and antivirus software can make your computer vulnerable to infections or hacking attempts. Method 5: Restart the Windows Update Service

If none of the above solutions work, then there is only one way to go about. You can try restarting the Windows Update service. You can do that by opening Command Prompt. Once it opens type in the following command: net stop wuauserv. And press Enter to stop the Windows Update service. Then type in the following command: net start wuauserv. And press Enter to start the Windows Update service.
